READING
STREET INITIAL INSERVICE
On June 11, teachers in grades K-5 will learn about the
new reading program, Reading Street, from Pearson that will
be implemented in the 2008-2009 school year. The goal of
the in-service is to provide an overview of Reading Street’s
lesson structure and program components by Scott Foresman.
Included in the in-service will be a close look at the lesson
plans for whole and small group instruction and where and
how the program components can best be used. Several of
the components have a relationship to helping students as
they think about the PSSA. Another part of the in-service
for each grade will be to understand the assessment and
progress monitoring that will help all students move forward.
When finished, the teachers should leave with a clearer
understanding of Reading Street which will help them as
they implement the program in the next school year. Follow-up
in-service will be scheduled for the fall after teachers
have had an opportunity to work with the program.
