Science

Science in the 5th grade is very much like what your child had in 4th grade. When we begin a new lesson, your child will write out vocabulary cards for each new word. They will keep these in a plastic baggie in their Science folder, which I will provide. We will always read the lessons together so that I can explain everything in greater detail. If your child should be absent, I will send home the Science assignments. Please work with your child on this. The readings are very in depth, which is why I always read the chapters with them.

Following every lesson, your child will be completing a Lesson Vocabulary worksheet and a Lesson Outline worksheet for a grade. They shouldn't panic over this. It seems harder than it really is. These worksheets are basically word for word with what is in the textbook. They are able to use their textbook to help them find the answers. I feel that because this book is so scientific, this process will help them locate answers and decide if they are correct or not. After I grade this worksheet packet, it will be returned to your child and they should keep it in their Science folder (they will need it again).

Upon completion of each chapter, your child will be taking a chapter test. These tests are usually multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer. To help them study for these tests I will point out specific questions found on the Vocab. worksheets and Outline worksheets that I want them to study (basically everything that will be on the test). I will also give them the short answer questions ahead of time so that you can help your child prepare them at home.
