Carbon County Chamber of Commerce
presents award to PVHS senior
On May 14th, Brandi Strauch was the recipient
of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce Graduation High
School Senior Award at a breakfast held at Gallo’s
Flagstaff Restaurant in Jim Thorpe. The award is presented
to a Carbon County graduating high school senior with an
entrepreneurial spirit who demonstrates exemplary commitment
to community service.
It was an honor and privilege to be a guest
of Brandi and CCCC for this very special presentation. Congratulations
Brandi for your well deserved award.
SPRING CONCERT held at PVHS
On May 13th, the PV high school auditorium
was the setting for a great evening of music. The show was
opened by the PV Junior Band, under the direction of Mr.
Joe Ogozalek, and featured seven selections by the talented
group, including the Queen classic, “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
The show then shifted to the Guitar/Percussion
Class Ensembles under the direction of Mr. Thomas Lawler.
Their set was comprised of nine classic rock favorites and
featured an original composition of the Percussion class
titled, “Chocolate Covered Altoids”.
To bring the show to a rousing close, the
PV High School Concert Band, under the direction of Mr.
James Bynon, took the reigns. Their set of 7 selections
included something for all musical tastes, ranging from
classic jazz sounds, British Invasion hits of the 60’s
(a personal favorite of mine), and the patriotic, “God
Bless America”.
The program was a great success and a tremendous
encore for our graduating members.
Summer Achievement School will be offered beginning June
16-27 at the Panther Valley High School. Sessions of English
and Math will be offered under the tutelage of faculty members
Mrs. Michelle Martin and Mr. Joseph Sweeney, respectively.
Three online courses will be offered this summer as well.
American Government, Biology, and Health will be available
and under the monitoring of faculty members Mr. Jake Miller,
Mr. William Schweitzer, and Mr. John Cooper, respectively.
Baccalaureate held at PVHS Auditorium
A longstanding tradition continued on June
8th, as a Baccalaureate service was held and sponsored by
the Panther Valley Gathering of Clergy on behalf of the
graduates of Panther Valley High School, Class of 2008.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude
to the students that attended the service along with the
many family and friends that came out to support this wonderful
event for our graduates. Ultimately, I must thank the graduates
that volunteered their services for the Baccalaureate service
and the Panther Valley Gathering of Clergy. Words simply
cannot express how thankful I am for their guidance in putting
this service together in such a short amount of time, keeping
the spirit of the event alive and the tradition firmly in
tact.
