Dear Panther Valley School District Community,
I am sending this release and notification in the interest of transparency and open communication between the Panther Valley School District and the students and families that we serve. Maintaining the integrity of our educational programming and our students that attend the Panther Valley School District is always our main concern and focal point.
As you may already know, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Panther Valley Board of Education and the Panther Valley Education Association expired in August of 2015. Both the Board of Education and the PVEA have been engaged in negotiations prior to the expiration and since the expiration.
On Wednesday January 18th both parties met in a negotiations session. While some progress had been made some unresolved issues still exist. At the conclusion of the most recent negotiations session the PVEA served notice of a strike that will commence at 12:01 AM on May 22nd 2017.
If a strike were to commence on May 22nd this would no doubt impact the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year. Depending on the amount of days of the strike, the school calendar would need to be adjusted to meet the required number of school days for our students. At this time, the last day of school and graduation are slated for June 6th. If there is a strike this would impact our proposed calendar and delay the conclusion of the school year.
It is our obligation to let everyone know that delaying the end of the school term would impact our students and their families. I am sure that the graduating seniors may have obligations that they need to address and that our families have vacation plans that may be impacted through this process.
The Panther Valley Board of Education intends on pursuing an amicable end to any proposed labor stoppage and hopes that negotiations will continue in an effort to fulfill our obligation of providing an education to our students.
