Assessments
Assessment plays an important role in helping Panther Valley School District monitor student progress, inform instruction, and ensure that all students are receiving the support they need to succeed. The district utilizes a balanced assessment system that examines both student proficiency and student growth. While proficiency measures whether students are meeting grade level expectations and academic standards, growth measures the progress students make over time, regardless of their starting point. Together, these measures provide a more complete picture of student achievement and learning.
Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams are administered annually in grades 3 through 8 to measure student proficiency in English Language Arts and Mathematics, with Science assessments administered in grades 5 and 8. Keystone Exams are administered at the secondary level in Algebra I, Literature, and Biology and serve as end of course assessments that measure student understanding of Pennsylvania's academic standards. These state assessments provide valuable information about how students are performing in relation to state expectations and help the district evaluate overall program effectiveness.
In addition to state assessments, Panther Valley utilizes local assessment tools to monitor student learning and growth throughout the school year. IXL Diagnostics provide ongoing information about student performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics, helping teachers identify skill gaps, personalize instruction, and track progress toward grade level readiness. FastBridge assessments are used to screen students and monitor academic growth in reading and mathematics, providing educators with timely data to support instructional planning, intervention efforts, and student success.
By examining both proficiency and growth across multiple assessment measures, the district is able to make informed decisions that support continuous improvement and ensure that every Panther has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
